You have just entered our Restoration Page. Here you will find images and stories about some of the past, present and future Bench Mark Works restoration projects. We don't just restore these bikes we make them better than the originals. Often we get comments from our customers: "it feels like a new bike", and we reply “that's because it is!” After a full restoration we refer to these bikes as being "remanufactured". Every system or part is meticulously brought back to its former glory or better. We use stainless steel parts where possible, superior paint formulas that accurately match the originals which we then water-sand and buff to a concourse finish. Upgraded electrical and ignition systems are available, as are modern rubber compound tires with period tread patterns. Performance upgrades are also very popular on our post 70's machines - big bore kits, sport cams - you name it we can do it. Our head mechanic is a performance specialist who has a rich BMW racing background and knows what it takes to enhance these bikes - safely. This Dover white bike belonged to a Montreal man who obviously loved riding it. After his unfortunate passing, his son brought it to us to restore in his father’s honour. Unfortunately we don't get the chance to build many Dover white /2's, so this was a real pleasure. During this restoration a few of our "regulars" commented how beautiful the Dover white is and that want their next bike to be Dover white. |

We were commissioned by a well known Toronto artist to build the best R60 in Canada. Well this was a challenge we just couldn't refuse. This bike is one very-accessorized show stopping machine. We installed: |

| We were asked if we could take this barn find and make it a concourse winner in just 3 weeks! This was an exciting restoration to say the least! The deadline was extremely tight, but because we do 99% of the work in-house, we knew we could do it. The day the bike arrived, we had it stripped to bare metal and started the prep for our exclusive multi step paint job. The next day the engine, gearbox and final drive were disassembled and closely inspected to make sure we weren't dealing with any major issues that could stop us from meeting the deadline. We found the main bearings were excessively out of spec and required new con-rod assemblies. This could have been a major slow down but being North America’s premier crank builder, they were fixed and better than new in under 48 hours. The crank work was followed by a re-bore with new OEM first over pistons and a valve job. The next issue we came across was a badly worn rear spline, approximately 50% of the tooth surface was missing. Off it went to our gear repair expert and returned 7 days later. With these issues taken care of the rest of the restoration went like clock work - new high lip aluminum rims laced with stainless steel spokes, new front and back shocks, and complete rubber and stainless steel fastener kits installed. We actually fired the engine 15 days after we started the restoration. The owner was amazed when he took delivery, he just couldn't believe this transformation took place in less than 3 weeks.
Obviously we can't do every restoration within this tight time-line, but we will certainly try to meet your requirements. |
